By now everyone would have sensed what virtual reality is in real either through sound or sight. But what got missed out is whether virtual reality could be felt. Now to get this query evaded, there is a new pair of gloves called Gloveone that lets you touch and feel virtual objects.
A Spain-based tech company, the ‘NeuroDigital Technologies’ has developed the new Gloveone which appears in both green and black shades. Gloveone is to let everyone feel the sensations of virtual objects like their shape, size and weight on interacting with them, the main aim of the company being to bring virtual reality in your hands.
According to Gloveone’s developers, the one who wears this pair of smart gloves is to experience the feel of rain and fire along with the feel of something being ethereal as butterfly wings. The technology behind this Gloveone is the transition of touch sensations into various vibrations patterns to produce the feel of shape and touch. Each pair of Gloveone comes equipped with 10 sensors that occupy the fingertips and palm parts of the gloves. The magic behind the virtual reality feeling is because of the inter-connected sensors. There are four sensors placed in the palm, index, thumb and middle fingers that can detect each other making the user feel the firing of a gun or getting an apple grabbed.
A 9-Axis inertial measurement unity sensor (IMU sensor) is also included in the gloves (beneath the gloves). Basically an IMU sensor is used to manoeuvre aircraft that records orientation, velocity and gravitational forces with the help of accelerometers, magnetometers and gyroscopes. Now in the Gloveone, this IMU sensor tracks the user’s hands within the virtual world to give the user the impact of a more realistic experience.
The feeling of wearing these Gloveone is described by the company as a realistic perceptual illusion which means feeling the virtual object’s weight same as it is in real world is not possible but comparing the weights within the virtual world being possible.
Prototyping of the product got over by the company which has now created a Kickstarter campaign page for the financial aid in getting the gloves manufactured. So on reaching the Kickstarter page interested buyers can purchase the gloves that come in three sizes. Every pair of the glove being ‘sweat-proof’ and ‘anti-bacterial’ sports a Bluetooth wireless connection besides offering four hours plus battery life. The only drawback is that anyone wanting to enjoy the experience via Gloveone have to wait until 2016.
